I am an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Media and Journalism Studies at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. As a media/journalism scholar, my central focus is on the transformation of professional journalism in today’s digitally networked and datafied world. Broadly speaking, my research aims to understand how non-journalistic actors shape traditional journalism and the global society. I have a specific interest in critics of the mainstream media as well as peripheral actors involved in the production of content for public dissemination such as NGOs, fact-checkers, civic technology organisations, or social media content creators. I completed my PhD in media and communication studies at Karlstad University, Sweden, and later joined the University of Groningen as a post-doctoral researcher. Before moving into academia in 2014, I worked as a journalist in Kenya and Uganda.
